Austin Artist Showcase- Posh Painter

One of my great friends, an Austin abstract and textural painter, Jessica Baum is doing big things lately.  I thought I would start the week off by showcasing a few of her fabulous pieces.  I am currently working on a design board inspired by one of the lovely paintings below.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
I paint not just because I love to, but also because I need to. Day and night, my hyperactive mind causes twisted words, incomplete stories, unexpected moods, and brief sleep. When I paint, time slows down and I feel as though my mind is being cleansed as I become lost in a world of colors and freedom. Painting for me is like meditation to others. I believe I am a better person because of it. No matter what emotions or life experiences fill me, I always have the desire to paint. Thoughts and emotions are released through blending, dabbing, dripping, folding, scraping, and smearing of paints. The outcome is usually unpredictable until my mood and experiences become permanently fixed through acrylics. Only occasionally do I use a paintbrush. I add glass beads, sand, lava, and fibers to add depth and interest to my paintings and symbolize the complex layers that make us who we are. - Jessica Baum
